2003 Theme – “Feed Your Soul” by daily reading the New Testament

Finding & Giving Love

Highlights from One Year Bible readings (1 Cor 13:4-7) Aug 24, 2003

1 - God is our Source for love

John 3:16-17 God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

1 John 4:10-11  This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

2 - God’s love is patient and kind

Gal 5:22-23 The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Col 3:12-14 As God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

2 Peter 3:9 (God) is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

3 - God’s love is not envious, boastful, proud, rude or self-seeking

Phil 2:3-4 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

James 3:14-17  If you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

4 - God’s love is not easily angered and keeps no record of wrongs

James 1:19-20  Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.

Pr 15:1  A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Pr 29:11  A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.

Isa 43:25 (God says) "I am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.”

Ps 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.       Micah 7:18-19 Who is a God like you, who pardons sin?…You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy…and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.

Col 3:14 Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

5 - God’s loves does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth

Prov 13:2 The unfaithful have a craving for violence.

Ps 122:1 I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD."

Ps 1:1-2 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.  But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.

6 - God’s love protects, trusts, hopes and perseveres

Rom 15:7  Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
